Chemigrams, Photograms
Archetypal images conjured in a chemical bath. A scrying of sorts but not for divination.
Chemigrams and photograms are produced from a cameraless photography method, using darkroom chemicals and light-sensitive paper. I am interested in the process of pictorial symbolism emerging from water as a ritual engaged with Carl Jung’s individuation process – which is when the personal and collective unconscious are assimilated into the whole personality by bringing them into consciousness. This psychic process taps into a creative impulse, beginning with shadow work – wherein lies the repressed aspects of self that the ego has disowned.
